Signs Mom and Dad Need Help at Home

Caregiver in League City TXAt some point, your elderly mother and/or father will need a helping hand around the house if they wish to continue to age peacefully and safely in the comfort of their own home. A great majority will need an extra hand around the house, but will resist the idea of someone coming into their home to help. In fact, there is only a small percentage of elderly people who accept the fact that they need help to continue to safely live at home by themselves.

It is your job as a son or daughter,  family member or even friend, to make the decision to discuss getting your elderly loved one(s) help around the house. Do not wait until a fall and a hospital visit happens to make the decision to speak up. Instead, make the decision to get in-home senior care and support to prevent any injuries or mistakes like forgetting to turn the stove off, which could be detrimental.

Here are some signs to look for when determining if your elderly loved one needs support at home:

  • One common sign is forgetting where you placed items that you use regularly, such as telephones/cell phones, car keys, wallets/purse etc.
  • Not being able to recall names of family or friends, or even calling family and friends different names other than theirs.
  • Forgetting to turn off running water, or even worse, leaving a hot stove on, which could lead to a house fire or gas leak.

This is a short list of some common signs that help is needed at home. Here at New Frontier Home Care, it is imperative that your elderly loved one continually age happily and peacefully in their own home. Studies have shown people tend to be happier and live longer at home versus and nursing facility. Our Certified Nursing Assistants at New Frontier Home Care are trained to perform all of the required duties to help your elderly loved one remain happy while aging at home. Duties include light housekeeping, meal preparation, companionship, trips to the grocery store and church and so much more.
