Elder Care in Kingwood TX
When Brenda was taking care of her aging father, it wasn’t something she was too keen on doing at the time. It just made sense because she was the closest living relative to him, nobody else wanted to step up and volunteer, and he was flat-out refusing to consider professional home care for the elderly.
The more Brenda assisted him with various activities throughout the day, the more help he seemed to need. She tried to temper her desire to help him and keep him safe with the necessity for him to continue doing as much as he could on his own. It was a difficult balancing act, but one she managed to improve over time.
Caring for her father created more tension between herself and him as well as other family members. She often heard from a sister who lives in another state about things she should or shouldn’t be doing. There were times when her father didn’t want to do anything, but she encouraged him to get out and be more active. There were other times when he was a bit too ambitious and she was concerned about his safety. This tension led to a more significant problem in time.
One day Brenda received a phone call from her brother accusing her of taking advantage of their father. She had gone shopping for him, purchased other items that he needed at home, but never once did she actually take advantage of him, ask for money, or anything else. However, because of the tension that built up between him and her over time, and the problems that were created between her and her sister, rumors and accusations began to swirl behind the scenes.
Why the accusation started.
Her sister had visited one week and was going through their father’s finances and his checkbook and saw a number of purchases that were written in with Brenda’s handwriting. Brenda immediately denied any wrongdoing, stepped back, and encouraged her sister and brother to talk to their father about hiring professional elder care.
It can be difficult getting caught up in strife within the family. However, it doesn’t have to continue. For somebody like Brenda who did nothing but the right thing all along while the rest of her family stayed on the sidelines, her act of love and caring incidentally created more tension between her, her siblings, and even her father.
It also created more stress in her life. Encouraging her father and the rest of her family to look into professional home care for the elderly allowed Brenda to step back, step away, and avoid the continued stress it created in her life.
